Zhi Dao Guan, The Taoist Center, in Oakland, CA, will host the Nineteenth Annual Taoist Gathering on October 23, 2022 in a hybrid format at the Center in Oakland, CA and via Zoom platform – a day devoted to the study, practice, and promotion of Taoism.

The theme for the 2022 Taoist Gathering is METAMORPHOSIS

Metamorphosis: How to change and how to be okay with change. The Daoist idea of biànhuà 變化  (metamorphosis or literally, change and transformation), rests on Zhuangzi ‘s thought that the world is always in flux which leaves open the possibility that things may transform from one type to another.

For hexagram 1 Qian 乾 "The Creative", Divinity of Yang, the Commentary on the Decision (彖傳傳) says:

The way of the Creative works through change and transformation, so that each thing receives its true nature and destiny and comes into permanent accord with the Great Harmony; this is what furthers and what perseveres

The Master [presumably Confucius] said: Whoever knows the Tao of the changes and transformations, knows the action of the gods"

Heaven creates divine things; the holy sage takes them as models. Heaven and earth change and transform; the holy sage imitates them.

Kun, divinity of Yin, one of the Eight Trigrams 八卦[ba1 gua4], symbolizing taking in, absorbing, supporting change in another.

This Gathering will focus on Metamorphosis, Change – knowledge and techniques for understanding change, effecting change and changing in a healthy manner.

We are interested in exploring the Taoist experience of metamorphosis. Presentations will focus on the techniques, practices and rituals of Taoist teachings as they can effect and support metamorphosis.

Noted philosophers and practitioners will share ways of metamorphosis related to Daoist practice and philosophy.

The Gathering will be held at Zhi Dao Guan - The Taoist Center AND conducted by ZOOM with open chat rooms and opportunity to fully participate.
