About

Joaquim Bezerra, as part of his research and artistic production, dialogues with the visual arts, performance and contemporary theatre. A multi-media artist, he has worked as an actor, character designer, costume designer and performer.
For the work he is currently developing, Joaquim is undertaking research which focuses on identity, genetics, gender questions, sexuality and Afro-Religious. In this way, he seeks to explore how the body of the actor-performer can interact with the many aspects of the contemporary art environment.
After some years working in cultural management, Joaquim felt the call to return to his roots in performance and took the decision to move to São Paulo to work with the VUHA theatre group based in Casa das Caldeiras-SP Capital. The new scene, combined with the support from the teachers at ECA-USP University of São Paulo, opened the doors for Joaquim to enter into the world of character design and contemporary performance, and to embark on an audio visual career.
Looking to his roots in body-performance, this time incorporating experiences from his life and aspects from a number of different cultures, in 2013 he returned to performing (production and acting). Today Joaquim works with a group of performers called OBJECTIVE SPECTACLE, with the second production of the group being invited to perform at MARTIN GROPIUS BAU-Berlin. His research on the performance scenic environment continues with the ODIN TEATRE-Holstebro through the CROSS POLLINATION process. Also in the London platform Intercultural Roots. His work, draws upon all of his performance and life experiences thus far to explore societal, scientific and political themes in the context of the body.
