About

Originally from Brazil, Tiago Gambogi is a multi-talented artist known for his vibrant work in dance, theatre, clowning, pole dancing, artivism, and lecturing. With an impressive career spanning nearly 30 years, he co-directs his own company, f.a.b. - The Detonators in partnership with Maggi Swallow. He collaborated with notable artists including Nigel Charnock, Earthfall, Ben Duke, Angela de Castro, Grupo Oficcina Multimédia, Interplay Theatre, and The Institute for Crazy Dancing.

Gambogi's remarkable achievements include receiving the Best Director award at Festu 2016 in Brazil, Best Pole Theatre Comedy UK 2016 accolade and the Venue's Magazine Award in Dance from 2006 to 2008.

His daring approach makes for captivating appearances, including showcasing his clown persona on the BBC's Jonathan Ross show. He made headlines by pulling a 5-metre wooden canoe into an office building in the Amazon and gained widespread attention for his arrest related to environmental issues, resulting in front-page coverage in all national newspapers.

Through his Project Trans-Amazônia, Gambogi engaged in teaching, performing, and traversing the Transamazon Highway, visiting 30 localities across seven Brazilian states, including cities, villages, and indigenous settlements. His transdisciplinary and holistic work encompasses improvisational contemporary dance, clowning, performance art, and site-specific art approaches. This unique blend forms a powerful artistic hybrid that explores the performative and non-performative, seeking to elicit new creative responses and foster dialogue with companies grappling with socio-environmental crises.
