About

Full Description:

Whatever kind of performer you are - dancer, musician, live artist, arts workshop leader or teacher - do you communicate what matters to you with passion, do you engage your audiences? Or do you have concerns about ‘nerves’, the ‘inner critic’ or getting stuck in your approach? Does a lack of stillness interfere with your performing to your best abilities and with your wellbeing as a whole?
If so, this workshop is for you! If you’d like to work on posture, balance or movement and developing ease in performance, to gain input into specialist skills, or if you simply wish to gain more control over your life, Alexander Technique offers a great way for you to make the changes you seek.

The course offers the opportunity to:
* explore and experiment with the Alexander Technique (AT) actively engaging with the ideas presented
* gain a practical experience of working with AT principles
* develop skills to begin to apply the principles for oneself
* make practices such as 'warm up' AT friendly
* gain insight into how the AT can enable performers to develop their practice and performance in a way that enhances wellbeing

This workshop is suitable for all and no prior experience of the AT is necessary. We will be exploring activities that are basic to performance and daily life such as standing, sitting, using objects, instruments and voice. You may wish to consider a short text, song, piece of music or sequence of movements that you would like to work on. We suggest participants find a space where they won’t be disturbed, where they can adjust the temperature, can move around and have something to lie down on comfortably, with cushions to support head and legs as well as something comfortable to sit on in front of the screen.

While the live workshops will take place in Zoom, all participants will receive an invitation to join our Basecamp online forum for additional support and group communication.

Take-away Benefits:

• have an increased understanding of Alexander Technique in daily practice
• have gained a critical understanding of AT principles in everyday and stage performance
• have a greater understanding of the implications of AT principles for those they work with
• be able to incorporate the basics of AT into their daily activities and their performance practice
